5th Team/Vets
Winnington Park came to Sandbach to win. They underlined their intentions with a well taken try under the posts following a break worked between their very effective half-back partnership. This pairing caused Sandbach trouble throughout. The required Sandbach tactics were thus obvious - deny possession (a task which the forwards undertook with enthusiasm and effectiveness); and put pace on any good ball won (here the backs performed admirably). These revised tactics allowed Sandbach to start the second half with a narrow lead, each team having scored a brace of tries and penalties. The second half was a different story. Sandbach continued denying Winnington any ball and applying relentless attacking pressure. As Winnington tired, a further four tries were scored to round off a thoroughly deserved victory.
