Sandbach 7 - Congleton 24 Sat 16 October 99 Fielding a strong team Sandbach never looked likely to lose this match with local rivals Congleton, but somehow they failed! Chances seemed to go begging as Sapper and Fraggle linked well to push the ball out to the centres only to see the ball being dropped or thrown forward at the final moment. The Sandbach forwards played well enough to win this match but unfortunately they were let down by missed chances from the speed merchants. The Sandbach try was a penalty given for persistent offending in the loose, but this did not make up for careless Sandbach play. A match best forgotten, with the only high point being Steve Sutton wearing a tea cosy on his head for the complete game: the result of some lost wager we presume?
