Sandbach 20 - Wallasey 5 Sat 25 September 99 A bruising Wallasey team turned out hoping to intimidate the home side by a display of physical aggression that was more suited to a dockyard brawl than a rugby match. Sandbach however weren’t interested in that game and just played the ball out through the backs and ran the legs off the visitors. Tries were scored by Richard Pickles, Paul Harvey and Jim Ryder. Committee man Ryder described his own try, in which he claims that he ran the full length of the pitch to chase down and tackle the Wallasey winger, whereupon he picked up the ball, crashed and side-stepped his way through the whole visiting team to score a wonderful try under the posts. Apart from Jim’s try, skipper Jason Keeble picked out the all round performance of Dave Tavenor for special mention.
