Whitchurch 2 7 - Sandbach 41

Back to winning ways!
A changed Sandbach side this week made the short journey to Whitchurch. Sam Morris moved into the back row as did Neil Dey, Luke Butler took the 13 jersey and his brother Dan stepped in at 10 with captain Will Rees moving to Scrum Half.
Sandbach started brightly and heavy pressure on the Whitchurch line resulted in a 5 metre scrum from which number 8 Pembo fed Scrum Half Will Rees to open the scoring for Sandbach. This was duly converted by Tim Jones.
Sandbach kept the pressure up for the rest of the first half, forwards were constantly making inroads into the Whitchurch defence giving the backs a good platform to make good ground. After some good play, Sam Morris popped up on the wing to score in the corner.
Ray Jones and Luke Butler were making some good surges into the opposition back line and created some space for Tim Jones to score in the corner. This was followed by a penalty try after diminutive Fly Half Dan Butler kicked through for brother Luke only for him to be barged off the ball resulting in the penalty try.
Sam grabbed his 2nd try after a well worked line out move resulting in some space for Sam to beat 4 men before scoring under the posts.
Half time and Sandbach were in a strong position. Whitchurch came back into the game in the second half, forward pressure caused some nervous moments for the Sandbach defence. Big hitting by Neil Dey and Andy Pipe kept them at bay before they managed to get over the whitewash.
This seemed to spur Sandbach on and after some good foward drives and quick hands in the backs Tim Jones found some space. Tim took on the defence and found able support in Dan Faulkner who powered over from 5 yards.
Colin Wyatt decided to have a well earned rest and 10 minutes in the sin bin did him a world of good. Sandbach added a further score through Chris Greenhalgh, some slick hands made the most of some quick ball and Chris squirmed over in the corner.
There was another "try" Pete Wardlaw cut a nice short line to score, only he put the ball on the 5 metre line!!! He ws waiting for the ref to award the try, then got a shout from a team mate informing him he'd got the wrong line! Nice one Pete!!!!
Overall a good performance, Pembo lead from the front and played well against his brother, Andy Pipe put in a good performance (good to have you back U bend) The Butler and Jones brothers in the backs made some good breaks and were a constant thorn in the opposition side.
Man of the match goes to Neil Dey, after stepping into Flanker, Neil was everywhere. He carried well in attack and put in numerous big hits. Well done Nez!
Next week we entertain Leigh and will be looking to win after going down to defeat at their place earlier on this season.
