Sandbach 69 - Rochdale 2 17

Sat 21 March 2009

The Sandbach Express got back on track with an excellent performance against the visiting Rochdale.

With the game stating at a serious pace, Sandbach looked to move the ball and thrust deep into the opposition defence. Andy Pipe and Tom Whalley in particular made some good bullocking runs into enemy territory creating opportunites for the pacey Sandbach backs.

The returning Andy Rollings always looked to take on the opposition defence and was rewarded for his endevour with a hat trick of tries.

The first half ended with Sandbach 5 tries to the good after some polished finishing and stout defensive work.

The half time team talk called for more of the same and straight into the second half Dan Stubbs and Jim Smokes linking up well and keeping the ball alive to create futher tries.

With Mitch on the wing after his deserved promotion from the 3rd team, looking to take on the opposition at every opportunity. Sandbach were on the front foot. The Orange arrow Russ Dymond got over the whitewash for a rare try after winger Mike Huss didn't quite have the pace to finish off a flowing backs move. More labrador than greyhound, Hussy's extra yard of pace appears to be behind him.

As the game continued, there were scores by Dan Stubbs, Andy Pipe and a 70 yard sprint by Matt Stanway, which was a particular highlight. Dummying his way through the opposing defence with a fleet of foot associated with a younger man, Stanny's try was just rewards for a good performance.

Rochdale came back to the fore and scored 2 second half tries, putting together some good passages of play to open up the Sandbach defence.

The Sandbach Zoolanders always had that extra bit to open up a sizeable advantage and happy faces all around showed a highly polished performance.

Man of the match this week went to Tom Whalley after an excellent all round game, defence like a Wolverine and attacking play like a Panther, a good day at the office for Senor Whalley.

Hopefully Sandbach can keep this level of performance up for the remaining 2 games to finish an excellent first season in the John Smiths Division 1 on a high.
