Sandbach 0 - Marple 3 82

Sat 14 March 2009

Oh well. A week after having to concede against Aldwinians, Sandbach 4s nearly had to concede this match with Marple all ready changed and out on the pitch due to a lack of referee until Steve Eckersley stepped in and did a manful job of taking charge, earning the gratitude of boths teams.

When we played Marple early on in the season, we arrived horribly late, had a tiny warm up and proceeded to concede too many early tries before getting our heads in the game and making a game of it. Therefore, I was looking forward to getting a strong team out and making a good crack at it.

A lack of front row players meant uncontested scrums from the start which definitely was not in the game plan. The pack consisted of Maddog(!!), Chris Dyer and John Warburton, Griffo & Preeny worked in the engine room and Ryan, Rich and Martin Lee (for the 1st half only) made up the back row.
The Jones Boys took the half backs shirts, with the DD partnership of Dave and Dom in the centres. Gaz remained at 15 and the wingers were Tom and new boy Lamont who is American but recognised that rugby is better than American Football nice and quickly!! Martin Payne and a returning Chris Nye made up the bench - yes, I actually had subs.....

Anyway, Marple scored regularly with their excellent 10 and 13 running the show. The 2 Marple wingers were also like greased lightning and I was quite relieved when told their quickest guy wasn't even playing this week.
The Greens had a few opportunities to score but (certainly to my detriment) the wrong option was always taken.

And so we move to the twighlight of this season with only 4 games to go - 2 at home and 2 away, including the all important "Boot" game at Buxton next up in 2 weeks time. Therefore, I require the strongest of sides possible in order to retain the mighty glass trophy. Contact me if you want to take the field of battle!!

P.s. Just in case some of you look at the league table and note we've dropped down and also lost points, it's because Bedians 3s have dropped out of the league and so we've lost 5 hard earned points :-(
