Whitchurch Festival

Sun 19 April 2009
Our development squad had the help and support of our more experienced players and everyone played fantastically well today and should be immensely proud of themselves.

I don't normally single out players in match reports but I feel everyone today had a massive contribution and all deserve a mention. Many players have impressed today and made my life harder choosing next week's squad - thanks!

Firstly ....... congratulations go to our 2 new players; Tom Purton who suddenly clicked with his tackling and who did a great job of holding his position in defense and attack and did the most amount of tackling in the squad today, and Fraser Janes who did some great runs and managed to get some good ball out in contact - keep it up both of you.

Our regular players who excelled today include our Pack of Robert, Milo, and James, you all stepped up a gear or two today. You played in all the matches and remained mobile and 'up for it' all the time and had a great impact on the play.

Changes to position included Fergus as scrum half who did a great job of delivering accurate balls from set pieces, and who kept the opposition guessing as he made use of wingers and fly half - regular scrum halves beware, the big guys can do it too!

William was moved between fly half and both centres and proved his ability to adapt and play his usual great game; he's a player able to dominate space wherever he is. Lawrence was his usual terrier-like self (strength and agility) and his hard work got us some great tries. Matthew's fantastic tap tackle from the ground sent a roar of delight amongst all the spectators - truly international stuff! Dom did a grand job of supporting the ball carrier and was ready to run with the ball but didn't get it enough! Pat O did a great job of stepping into the breach due to sickness and worked hard at closing down opposition runners. Devin got fully stuck in with some great determination into the tackle zone on many occasions.
