B Team Stoke Festival report 0 - Sandbach 0

Sun 24 April 2005

It was with great excitement that the remainder of of the U10's squad (14 on
this occasion) were able to enter the Stoke festival on April 24th. This
group of boys and girl, given the chance to enter a real tournament, set
about embracing it with an amount of commitment and passion of which they,
their parents and coaches must be very proud.

They entered a Pool which contained teams from Derby, Burton and Stoke and
they set about proving that they are now a team to be reckoned with. Some
excellent attacking play in all games (with outstanding individual efforts
by the Blackhurst boys and Mr Hopley) was supplemented by incredible
defensive play which proves that the team have been listening and learning
over the past 6 months. On occasions Derby and Burton must have thought
they would be better handing the ball over than face the defensive barrage
in front of them (Special mention to Tom Gould who on a few occasions was
the first in the front line, a new era for Tom !).

The first game against Derby saw 7 tries from Sandbach (T.BLACKHURST * 3,
HOPLEY *2, WOOLISCROFT, MORRIS) with no rebuttal - Sandbach 35, Derby 0

The second game against Stoke 2 was harder and saw Sandbach defense pushed
to its limits but was still a very well earned victory at Sandbach 10,
Stoke2 5 (2 tries from T.BLACKHURST).

The third pool game saw another resounding victory and generated more action
on the wing. This game ended Sandbach 25, Burton 0 (Tries from HANCOCK *2,

Pool B was therefore convincingly won by Sandbach and they were into the
semi final against the Pool A runners up (Sandbach A team having won their
pool also). In the semi final the opposition were Stoke A team who have
always been a formidable team. A very brave performance from Sandbach saw a
very respectable score at the end of this game (Stoke 10, Sandbach 0) and
the team should be proud of the days events.
