Sandbach 5 - Carnforth Vets 0

Sun 8 May 2005

Troops match report here written by the legendary foreign muck Mr Serge garavini . I unfortunately was not present for this momentous occasion so am unable to add anything to this report , save to say the score here is reflected as 5-0 just so it can be shown sandbach won . No one really knows the final score . The following words are those of Serge E Puss

Brownie,

Apologies for this not being as thorough as your efforts, however I usually
remember 3 things after a match:

i) We started
ii) We played
iii) We finished

During this time there are normally outstanding phases of play, areas where
we need to improve, scores (of some description) and sometimes teddies being
thrown from any one of a number of prams.

Also, mega busy at work so sorry about this being a synopsis!!!

So without further a do, here goes.

What a day, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone
of you who turned up on Sunday for a game. My thanks extends to Carnforth
who turned up in full St Trinians regalia - who were greeted with varying
comments from, "Oh my God!" to "Am I still drunk?? Doesn't matter, I fancy
my chances with blondie over there!"

We were playing at the Boys school as our pitches were unavailable and with
a bit of loose organisation we all arrived ready for a game of rugby on a
glorious day. The first half was evenly matched with tries from both sides.
It was evident that if we relaxed Carnforth were ready, willing and able to
pounce and capitalise, which they duly did. The first half ended with a
narrow margin between the two sides in Sandbach's favour 19 - 12 (or there
abouts).

As the 2nd half started, it appeared that Sandbach were being penalised for
being anywhere near the ball with multiple decisions going Carnforths's way.
By and large our defence was good and solid (it would appear that all those
tackle drills on Tuesday nights in the depths of winter were starting to pay
off!). We kept our cool, rided the wave and waited for any opportunities
that would come our way.

With Carnforth tiring after their night on the tiles in Shropshire, with, by
all accounts much beer being drunk (as displayed by Carnforth's scrum half
who thought it necessary to show us all by throwing up as we were about to
scrummage - nice one, cheers mate!!) we seized the opportunities to build
our score with a series of tries and some stunning rugby.

I have no idea who scored, other than Ray Jones, Ed Jones and myself and
therefore I have no idea who what the end score was, other than we won.

The day was much enjoyed by all and a return fixture must surely be on the
cards, my thanks to Carnforth, Chris Watson and the team - cheers boys!

Thanks to the travelling support as always and a special mention to Jacquie
who kindly went off in search of water for both teams - many thanks.

Sandabch were
