Telford Festival 0 - Sandbach 1

Sun 26 April 2009
Telford Festival – Sandbach Under 12’s Winners

An early start for Sandbach Under 12’s on Sunday to travel to Telford Hornets RUFC for a Festival of Mini Rugby. The team were confident after an unbeaten run against some tough opposition and were keen to continue their winning form.
Sandbach v Shrewsbury 2-0
First game against Shrewsbury, a previous encounter had resulted in a Sandbach win it had been an evenly matched game. So Sandbach stepped up expecting to have to play their best. With eleven minute one way games it was crucial to start strongly and gain the early score. From the off, Sandbach settled into their expansive flowing rugby and were rewarded quickly with a try. Forwards winning ball and quick off loads to the backs led to another try, and safe hands from the full back ensured the game was won at the whistle. Tries from Joe and George.
Newport v Sandbach 0-1
This was an eagerly awaited game as Newport being North Midlands Champions were set to be a challenge. They were a strong team with outstanding running lines orchestrated by their Player of the Tournament their Number Ten. This clash of the two teams brought end to end rugby with both conscious of the short duration of the game. Sheer determination etched on the face of the Sandbach Fly Half produced the only score, defence was then sound to hold on to a win for Sandbach. Try from George.
Sandbach v Telford 2-0
The host team were next and a hard physical game was expected but Sandbach now were settled into their usual open running game proving decisive in the end. The Outside centre running through numbers in their defence to score quickly followed by an impossible to disrupt run by the Sandbach fly half. The scrum in this game proved too much for Telford to contest and the majority of line out ball was won. Tries from Joe and George.
Melbourne v Sandbach 0-3
A side on their annual summer tour, confident after another Festival Plate win were smartly bedecked in their tour shirts and singing their tour song, (The Banana Song). Their bananas were soon mashed! A Sandbach centre brilliantly intercepted a ball in flight and strongly ran the try in. This was followed in quick succession by two further tries one of which a lightning run down the wing put the game out of reach of the touring Melbourne Bananas. Tries from Frazer, Kyle & Joe.
Dudley Kingswinford v Sandbach 1-1
As the tournament had progressed it had become obvious that Dudley Kingswinford were capitalising on the sheer physical size of their squad. However, the speed and agility demonstrated by Sandbach were giving them the edge and the momentum built to a well earned try from underneath a huge tackle. The balance of this game started to swing the oppositions way and Sandbach were put under pressure, unable to secure possession enough to score again. A run through try by a Dudley Kingswinford player brought the game to a draw. Try scored by George
Cobra v Sandbach 0-8
The must win or at the very least draw game. The tournament would be decided on the Sandbach performance in the last game and were in a strong position to take the cup on a good win. This proved to the case. A score of eight unanswered tries in only eleven minutes affirmed the Sandbach grip on the day. Cobra to their credit never gave up, did win ball and attacked with courage but all to no avail as the tries racked up. Supporters enjoying the fact,  that the style of play, still continued in the tournament winning way of the day.  Six tries from the backs and two tries from a forward. Tries from Joe, Callum, Tom, Frazer, Jack, Alex and Kyle.

Congratulations to the Under 12’s, what a fantastic way to finish their season. Thank you to all the squad for providing such enjoyable rugby and a well deserved piece of silverware for the club.
