Sandbach 5 - Warrington 10

Sun 21 November 2004

Squad: Chris Jackson, Kieran Leese, Jake Dobson, Charlie Rogerson, Megan Standring, James Barry, Joseph Jackson, Joe Stock, Loucas Thomas-Garrett, Danny Owen, Alastair Thompson, Sam Harding, Anthony Dowell, Stephen Lynch, Dominic Evans, Robert Coggon, George Beal.

Match 1: Sandbach 5, Warrington 5
Try scorer: George Beal

Warrington opened the scoring on what turned out to be an evenly matched game. Sandbach responded quickly and after Joe Jackson was held up on the line, the ball was recycled to enable George Beal to go over for the equalising try. Some fantastic tackling was seen from Megan Standring, Joe Jackson, Kieran Leese and Anthony Dowell to save a number of certain tries. New recruit Sam Harding also displayed some great defensive work, driving a Warrington player into touch. A great run from Jake Dobson in the dying seconds, with Alastair Thompson and Dominic Evans showing great supply play, took Sandbach up to Warriington’s try line only to be denied by the final whistle.

Match 2: Sandbach 0 Warrington 5

Again this match turned out to be hard fought with excellent play from both sides. Warrington stole the ball on a number of occasions only to be denied a score by Sandbach’s strong defence. Tackling practice was paying off with some fantastic low tackles from Danny Owen.

With no score at half time, Sandbach came out strong with Charlie Rogerson stealing the ball from Warrington and driving them hard. Chris Jackson proved what excellent ball can be made available to his team by some aggressive rucking. Following a driving maul from Sandbach, James Barry was held up over the line, but as the referee was unsighted (not blind!) he could not award a try. In the last play of the game, following a period of pressure from Sandbach on Warrington’s line, Warrington stole the ball from a maul and ran the length of the pitch to score.
