Sandbach 26 - Sedgley Park 29 |
Sun 29 October 2000
Sedgley Park are currently doing well in the league and after Sandbach gained a 19-0 lead they just could not beleive that they could be in such a position.
Winger Tim Jones started the scoring and was closely followed by James Anderson who crashed through the Sedgley backs to score. This try was converted by Matt Stanway. Matt also converted the next try scored by second row Tom Stockdale who had made the long trip from Hereford to play in this game. Sandbach then stepped off the pedal and allowed the score to be 19-10 by half time, as Sedgley Park scored a converted try and penalty.
The second half was as close as the first as first Sedgley scored then Gareth James scored another converted try, again the posts being split by Matt Stanway. Sandbach bravely battled on in far from ideal conditions but in the last few minutes of the match Sedgley Park ran in two connverted trys to make the final score 29-26 in their favour.
The Sandbach side put a lot of hard work into the match but unfortunately were not rewarded. The Sedgley Park coach confirmed that Sedgley were lucky to have won the match.
Several of the players made long trips to play in this match and should get a mention, Tom Stockdale from Hereford and Craig Hewitt from Sheffield. it is nice to see the amount of effort being put into the side.
Two mid week friendlies under floodlights have been oranised for the Senior Colts:
