Sharks - information awaited.
Saxons - v - Macclesfield (Report by Julia Hearn)
The pitch conditions were poor with the ground being wet, cold and slippery. Macclesfield kicked off and set off up the field. The game started fairly evenly, but Macclesfield found a hold in our defence on the right wing, to run acorss the pitch and score the first try.
The Saxons started the next phase with conviction and showed great commitment and line speed and pushed Macclesfield back. Our team then played strongly together by off loading to each other, and slowly worked our way up the field showing great support and aggression, then finally got over the try line by George Ridings. James H scored the conversion.
Saxons were then basking in their own glory of levelling the score and subsequently let Macclesfield back in. Fortunately such was their annoyance, the Saxons pulled level shortly before half time.
The second half started well, there was good communication with the Saxons playing as a unit. We showed good pressure and gave the opposition no time or space to organise themselves. The forwards and backs all working together.
Through the second half we lost our composure, structure and formation which created holes and Macclesfield score a further two tries.
Saxons - v - Stoke
An even match with both teams having plenty of possession.
The first try went to Stoke which was as a result of our lack of structure. The Saxons did start again with more conviction and composure and ended up on the Stoke try line with James H being held up and no try being scored. In the second half Stoke scored on the counter attack with the Saxons passing and awareness lacking.
Our composure was regained and after a period of pressure and great team play George Ridings managed to get across the try line. The Saxons never gave up, missed some tackles and slack passing meant that were unable to square a close match.
This was by far the best Saxons game of the season with all players showing fantastic determination. Everyone played well with everyone being eligible for player of the week.
Please note no children or animals were harmed during the half team talks !
