Sandbach 20 - Aldwinians 20 |
Sun 22 April 2001
This was a real bruiser of a contest, especially after a lay off !
The style of play was a new experience for the home team, proving that at times the best sort of defence is attack, and getting a lot of players to the breakdown, intent on coming away with the ball. However, Sandbach showed a great deal of resistance and evened out the spoils with growing determination and some fine open play.
On a less happy note, today's games proved to be the last of the season for two key players.
Jonothan Stanway succumbing to a hernia (not developed during the game !) and Ryan Benson, suffering a dislocated ankle after a serious tackle and flattening.
A second game gave a run out to five Sandbach players not taking part in the first, but Aldwinians made the most of the warm up in the earlier match, having only to replace one player. Sandbach were slow to gel, and the visitors made the most of the opportunity winning out 20 to 0.
