Winnington Park 38 - Sandbach 26 Sun 6 January 2013 Away at Winnington Park for the first game of 2013. With the largest squad of the season so far, Sandbach, over confident and rusty from the Xmas break were slow to start and spent the opening minutes defending before prop John powered over to open scoring. Although the remainder of the half was quite even in terms of possession, Winnington Park’s strong runners were slipping out of tackles and 3 tries before the break. Sandbach were not short of opportunities, but saw tries going begging as handling errors cost them dear.With the pitch becoming increasingly slippery in the second half Winnington Park opened up a clear margin after a try from Alex Gresty had briefly narrowed the gap. Gavin Paton scored a good try from close range, but again Winnington Park responded with an interception try.
