Yesterday, we contested the Cheshire Cup quarter-final with Macclesfield. In difficult conditions, both sides managed to play some good quality running rugby. The match was played in good spirit and with a lot of commitment being shown by all involved.
From a Sandbach perspective, I was absolutely delighted with everyone’s effort and contribution. Every single player fronted-up and everyone worked for each other in what was a great team effort. Our defence was excellent and our set piece play was very strong. Particularly during the second half, we showed that we are capable of competing with the best sides in Cheshire. There was a real belief that we could score tries and, eventually, we did. We have to build on this performance now and we have to show the same commitment and belief every time we take the pitch.
We didn’t always make the right decisions yesterday, but at least we were making decisions and thinking about the game. The important thing is to keep trying different options and, in doing so, reflect on what worked and what didn’t and, most importantly; why?
From my perspective, the most satisfying thing yesterday was to see a squad of 20 players working for and competing for each other, and supporting each other right to the final whistle. Whilst we were all disappointed with the result, I think I speak for all the parents present yesterday when I say that we were all very proud of the squad performance!!
Well Done.
