Rourkes Drift, Ladysmith, The Alamo, Duty free at Liverpool Airport, famous heroic defences and now we can add one more.
The under 14’s defence of their line was little short of magnificent. All players and subs should be extremely proud of what they did and achieved on this morning.
Macclesfield were obviously confused as due to a clerical error they had obviously sent their colts team by mistake and a coaching staff of 25 (but not one had the dress sense of Mat Dolan!!! Thank god)
Resplendent in their bright pink kit (takes a real man....) the omens seemed against Sandbach from the start. Spectators feared the worst but need not have worried as the boys tore into Macclesfield and defended heroically from the off. It took Macclesfield fully 15 minutes to mange their first try and still our defence held firm.
I could go to a blow by blow account of the match, I could name some of the star turns, but that would be unfair and I would have to name all 20 of the lads for their efforts. Tackles flew in left, right and centre and left again, right, centre, left, right and centre again. The scrum held firm and the forwards were not intimidated and won their fair share of the ball. The backs not to be outdone faced up, tackled and ran like demons. The body count mounted as the match wore on, but still the Sandbach lads would not take a backward step.
The reality was that Macclesfield showed why they are one of the top sides in the county and deserved their victory, but from our point of view what a great way to start a season...showing such commitment, bravery, courage and skill.
The team list is there and I will not single one player out, for on St Crispins day you all truly did, cry for Harry and St George and come to the defence of the Sandbach realm
Magnificent....well done chaps and a special mention to some fine officiating (once again) thanks Richard
Oh finally....Man of the Match David Hanson-Isasi
Spectator of the Day...Mr Mowbray (for his old shag!!!)
