SANDBACH GREEN 54 - 0 TRAFFORD MV
We were pleased to welcome a depleted Trafford MV squad to Bradwall Road and would like to thank them for making the journey despite having a number of players absent due to the half-term holiday. Ben, Greg, Max, Matty, and Kofi made up the numbers for the visitors and all of them played their part in a losing cause.
After an opening period of Sandbach pressure, and an initial break by Matt Hopton, Alex Bishop powered over the line to score the first try. This set the scene for the match and Sandbach added a further four tries before the half time break. Matt Hopton went over in typical fashion and Kyran Davies poached a try by breaking down an almost non-existent blind side and racing half the length of the pitch to score.
Danny Jakeman finished off a fluent backs move and Danny Partington took a couple of defenders over the line with him to send Sandbach into the break 33-0 to the good. (Kyran Davies being successful with four out of his five conversion attempts).
Trafford rallied in the second half and showed great tenacity, especially in the forwards. Sandbach crossed the line three more times; Kyran Davies added his second and, after a very determined run, Danny Jakeman did likewise. The last score caused a small controversy but has a happy ending! Rai Bennett looked to have grounded the ball but the try was only awarded when Kyran Davies applied downward pressure (for the second time according to Rai). The disappointment was short-lived as, as it was Kyran’s hat-trick try, his father will now have to purchase the first jug of next week’s tour! Thanks Phil! Kyran also converted all three second half tries into goals.
Try Scorers: Kyran Davies (3); Danny Jakeman (2); Alex Bishop (1); Matt Hopton (1); Danny Partington (1).
Conversions: Kyran Davies (7)

SANDBACH RED 12 - 14 TRAFFORD MV
The second game was a much closer and hard-fought affair. It was made all the tougher when, by making a decision that Philip Saint-Andre would be proud of, Sandbach’s coaches lent Danny P, Danny J, Tom H, Joe, and Kieron to the visitors. All played a major part in the game and we are grateful to all the boys that played for Trafford today.
Trafford opened the scoring with a long-range effort from one of their speedier runners and added the conversion to go 7-0 up. Sandbach came back at them and Greg Wilkes scored the try that George Cole converted to level the scores.
Matt Hopton, like Kyran Davies in the first game, then broke down the wing to score and give Sandbach the lead 12-7.
The match ebbed and flowed until, following what one spectator described as “very fair refereeing”, Trafford were awarded a penalty in the last play of the game; close to the Sandbach line. A quick tap resulted in one of their biggest forwards driving through the Sandbach defence to score. A successful conversion attempt saw Trafford MV take the match 14-12.
Well played today everybody!
Players of the Week:
Liam Miller (for a very encouraging performance on his debut) and Tom Maydew (for showing what he can do given the chance).
Try Scorers: Matt Hopton (1); Greg Wilkes (1).
Conversion: George Cole (1)
