Senior Colts

Old Northamptonians 20 - Sandbach 8 Sun 14 January 2001 The Senior Colts visit to Old Northamptionians for the second round of the English Club Colts Knockout Cup proved to be a thoroughly enjoyable event for all those that attended apart from Nick Bolton and apart also from fact that they were defeated. Nick Bolton's misery was caused by an enforced visit to the local hospital for urgent repairs to a badly damaged thumb - an injury incurred at the bottom of an early first half ruck. (Note to Chris Watson - Injury Form completed but only in pencil just in case !) Old Northamptonians opened the scoring with a penalty but Sandbach were quickly back in the game with an unconverted Tim Jones try. A further penalty to the hosts saw the half time score at 6-5 in their favour. Early in the second half Sandbach were awarded a penalty which Matt Stanway kicked successfully but from the resulting kick off Old Northamptonians immediately replied with a converted try. A further converted try followed after another 10 minutes to leave the final score at 20-8. Old Northamptonians were excellent hosts and put on a top quality after match spread for players and spectators alike. They also presented a Guinness fleece to Sandbach man of the match - Tim Oakes.
