Pre-Season Friendly sees the squad on track
The 2012/13 season for Sandbach RUFC opened with a pre-season friendly game against old friends Wilmslow RUFC. The game was organised into five 20 minute encounters and was played (mostly) under sunny skies on an excellent surface at Wilmslow.
Both clubs took the opportunity to give game time to large squads (30 plus) rotating players every 20 minutes.
Sandbach started the game with last season’s finishing team and then introduced new players throughout the afternoon. Sandbach took an early lead and despite some strong defence by Wilmslow, eventually pulled away to a commanding final score of 7 – 67 (although we had to ask the referee as nobody was really counting!).
It’s early days, but it was pleasing to see the strength in depth that now exists in the squad. Nobody looked out of place at this level and coach, Simon Verbickas has got “one of those good type of headaches” coming up as he formulates his 1st Team Squad for the coming season.
Next Saturday (11th August) Sandbach travel to Chester to play another friendly against the side from National 3: North.
