Oldham 8 - Sandbach 15 |
Sat 4 December 99
This was a match Sandbach should have won more convincingly, having seemingly done
the hard work in the first half. They led at half-time by 12 points, scoring two
tries and conceding none. Sandbach should have developed the game from there, but
Oldham had other ideas and started the second half with a bang, scoring a try in the
first five minutes. The Sandbach defence, which has been a significant weapon in
their armory this season, showed signs of folding. Oldham added a penalty after
fifteen minutes. This was the signal for the Sandbach forwards to wake up and start
denying Oldham possession. This tactic proved effective as Sandbach spent the
remainder of the match in the opposition half. They could muster only a penalty in
reply, however. Altogether, a tight, well-refereed match played in good spirit.
