Sandbach 30 - Lymm 25 Sun 5 November 2000 With the Under 8's squad now numbering 16 players, Sandbach fielded two teams against the visitors from Lymm. In the first match Lymm scored an early try as we were initially caught off guard by their strong running and support. More importantly the team learned from this very quickly and thereafter showed excellent defensive organisation. The game continued with both sides keeping good possession and generally managing to score from this. At half time the score was a well-balanced 3 tries each. In the second half Sandbach were particularly impressive in the way they drove the visitors backwards even when Lymm were in possession of the ball. This pressure led to a couple of mistakes that Sandbach capitalised on to take a 10-point lead. Sensing victory, the team seemed to ease off slightly in the final minutes and Lymm were able to run in a try that earlier in the match would have been stopped. The final score of Sandbach 30 - Lymm 25 was a well-deserved result that the team should be proud of. In the second match against our other U8's team, Lymm fielded the same team as for the first match. Despite our best efforts at trying to wear them out earlier, they proved too strong for us, against a team that had the majority of its players playing their first competitive game. Sandbach played enthusiastically for the whole match and showed improvement as the game continued. Their persistence was eventually rewarded when a gap opened up in the Lymm defence and they scored a well-deserved try in the final seconds to put some points on the board.
