Not a lot to say about the game. Too many errors, dropped balls, knock ons, offsides, losing at half time.
But the one thing we have plenty of is team spirit and that shone through in the end.
First half saw us go down 0-3 to a penalty kick before Wolffy scored and kicked the extra 2 points as well to put us 7-3 up. Following a good maul moving forward about 30m saw a line out from a penalty which resulted in Dowelly going over the white wash. Although a big hoof was given to the ball Wolffy couldn't make the ball go between the sticks, still we were 12-3 up. Before half time Kirkby Lonsdale, who for their part played well in phases, scored twice but couldn't convert either but went into the break 12-13 up and quite frankly deserved the lead as well.
Second half followed the first, not in scoring but in errors from both sides, not helped by the referee penalising both sides every minute or so, so no flowing rugby was witnessed today. Nothing of note (or from my notes) for the second half except...fight!!. Yellow card for Kirkby Lonsdale. Right at the end Alex sweetly side stepped back inside in one of a small handfull of following moves and went over the white wash. Wolffy missed the conversion and match ended 17-13 to us.
We played our get out of jail card today against a side who really gave us a game. Kirkby Lonsdale players, coaches and supporters can take credit from this game and I am sure our encounter at their club we be just as hard fought as it was today. Having never played Kirkby Lonsdale before we can report what a nice bunch of peolpe they were...the spirit of rugby in alive and well way up the M6.
