Sandbach 20 - Aldwinians 5 |
Sun 22 April 2001
This was a comfortable victory against a visiting team that struggled at times to get organised. The game started off with a solo run try immediately from the Sandbach kick off. Two other tries followed without reply as the visitors made handling errors, to give a half-time score of three tries to nil. But as has been the case in other games this season, once the team sensed victory they tend to ease off the pressure. This, together with other individual attempts at glory prevented what could and should have been a higher final score.
On a more positive note, the team are really starting to form good attacking lines and creating space and overlap situations; we now just need to get the players to recognise this and exploit it more. Defensively Sandbach were as solid as usual, despite some most definite under 9's style play from a couple of the larger visitors. Fortunately we also have a couple of similarly sized players who quite enjoyed a foretaste of things to come next season.
For the remainder of this somewhat extended season we have two festivals to play in including the Cheshire Cup, but this match completes our normal match season and so the coaches would like to congratulate all the players in the squad for having achieved an unbeaten record during the main season. Well done, and let?s see if we can continue it through to May 13th.
Try scorers: William Jepson (2), Chris Burrows (2).
Two further games were also played allowing all the squad to get at least one full game. Sandbach came out on top in both of these games 20 - 15 and 15 - 10; which were good results and shows that the squad is now developing as a whole. Notable performances and tries from Katie McEvoy - enjoying a new found position on the wing; and recent starter Nicholas Muldoon for his first try for the under 8's.
Other try scorers: Jack Robinson, Chris Burrows (2), William Jepson, Elliot Moore.
