Match One: Sandbach 0 – 24 Warrington
Match Two: Sandbach 0 – 33 Warrington
In the most unpleasant conditions of the season, Sandbach chose the last game of the calendar year to play some of their most ineffective rughy for some time.
Warrington were the better side in most departments and thoroughly deserved both victories.
On the plus side, despite being depleted by numerous injuries, neither Sandbach team even thought of giving up, and there were some heroic performances from the four individuals that were awarded “Player of the Week” by head coach Andy John.
Alex Bishop, Max Clayton-Barker, Tom Hilditch, and Danny Partington all battled long and hard for the cause and were worthy recipients of their medals.
History was made, however, at Sandbach Rugby Club this morning as, having checked the club archives, your correspondent can confirm that today’s was the first example of an U12 player being knocked to the ground by a referee’s swinging arm. At the time of writing, Joe’s advisors are considering whether to accept the referee’s claim that it was simply a case of over-exuberant gesticulation; following the award of a penalty.
Finally, the U12 management team were keen to emphasise that they have every confidence in the coaching team and are 100% behind them.
