In weather more conducive to cricket we travelled to Whitchurch to take on our old foes.
Our hosts kicked off and we were immediately put under severe pressure, this pressure soon told and Whitchurch scored 2 converted tries. Mid way through the first half the Sandbach lads seemed to wake up and started to exert their own pressure which was rewarded by a converted try. From the resulting re start Whitchurch struck again after some poor tackling by the Sandbach defence.
After some reorganising by the coaches at half time Sandbach started the second half on top, the forwards and the backs combined to create an excellent scoring opportunity but the ball was lost in contact deep in the Whitchurch 22 and from the resulting line out Whitchurch again scored to extend their lead. From this point on there was going to be only one winner.
The Sandbach lads never gave up and scored a deserved try late in the game. The result was not a true reflection of the game; if the errors are reduced and possession of the ball is improved the results of the matches will surely improve.
