Cheshire Bowl Final 2013
Yesterday, we travelled to Caldy to contest the final of the Cheshire Bowl. Having beaten Northwich and Winnington Park in the previous rounds, we faced a very strong Caldy side playing in front of their home crowd.
The score line doesn’t really reflect the closeness of the match or indeed the performance of the 19 boys representing Sandbach under 12s. Caldy were a very strong and physical side and, from the first scrum, we knew we had our work cut out!
That said, we showed enormous commitment and great team spirit. We tackled, covered, and worked for each other from the kick off right through to final whistle. Indeed, one of the Caldy coaching team complimented us on our defensive skills.
There were moments when we threatened the Caldy line but they were relatively few and, unfortunately, we weren’t able to capitalize on these good attacking opportunities.
So that brings to an end another great season for the Under 12s. I am already looking forward to next season when we move to 15 a-side and start playing on a full size pitch. This move will allow us to add some bulk to our otherwise relatively small but very skillful pack of forwards. It will also allow us to use the blistering pace that we have behind the scrum on a pitch where there will be so much extra space!
Well done everyone. You were a credit to your club yesterday. Reaching the final of the second tier competition in Cheshire is a great achievement and we are all very proud of you.
