After a chilly start to the morning it didn't take the Sandbach boys long to get into form and keep Ellesmere Port on the back foot.
In the first match, some excellent team and individual play led to a total of 7 Sandbach tries. Many players did their jobs well, but special mention should go to Alex who thoroughly deserved His Player of the Week award. As the game progressed there was a little more "white line fever" than is expected of our boys and it is important that this is not replicated in the future, as there were times when a pass to a teammate would have resulted in a try.
The second game started more slowly but resulted in 6 Sandbach tries, with only one penalty try conceded. Ellesmere worked hard to breach the Sandbach defences but the boys held strong and Ellesmere were unable to find any gaps. The penalty try was awarded after repeated penalties were conceded by Sandbach right on their try line. In attack the boys found ways to run around Ellesmere. Again, sadly, "white line fever" put in an appearance, with the option to make a simple pass being ignored.
Special mention goes to the two players of the week, Liam for some great running, tackling and his first Sandbach try (especially the grin afterwards!), and Matty for his growing confidence and skill, particularly his support when Liam made a break, which resulted in Liam popping the ball up for Matty to go over for the try.
The conversions were shared between Chris, Kyran, Rai, Rhys, George and Tom M.
The Hydration Team again did an excellent job in ensuring the boys had a half time drink, without having to wander off to their parents. As Manager, Sandra appointed a new trainee to expand her dedicated team!
Hopefully, this was out last frosty start!
