This week we visited Caldy. The weather was good and the conditions perfect for Rugby.
Both teams had reduced numbers available because of the half term holiday but the players who played produced an excellent game of Rugby with total commitment from both sides and with no quarter given.
Sandbach started strongly and enjoyed a lot of early pressure. Despite spending much of the first period in the Caldy half two well worked tries by Caldy saw a 10 – 0 scoreline in favour of the hosts.
Caldy started the second half well and scored a third try almost immediately from the re-start.
Sandbach then fought back and exerted plenty of pressure on the Caldy line with Ollie being denied a try by being held up. Shortly afterwards a well worked penalty saw Danny score in the corner. Louis converted with an magnificent conversion from just inside the touchline.
Close to the end Danny was also held up over the Caldy line thanks to some excellent defence from the home team.
The match ended with Caldy the victors of a hard and closely contested match. Both sets of players gave 100% and the game was played in an excellent spirit.
Thanks to Caldy for their hospitality and to the society referee who was excellent and controlled the game with a real empathy for this age group which allowed both teams to play and enjoy the game.
This was a true squad performance from Sandbach with all the players making genuine contributions on the day. There were distinct positives to take from this depite the end result. Well played lads.
